You may ask the question, what is a thematic map? A thematic map is a specialized map that is designed to represent a specific topic or issue in a specific geographical area. There are many different kinds of thematic maps that can represents multiple topics. Some topics that thematic maps capture are climate, population of different cultures, religions, and nationalities, health issues, and agriculture, in a specific area. The way that these topics can be shown is in maps such as an isoline map, choropleth map, a portion symbol map, and a dot map. Thematic maps are much different from regular maps because of the all the themes a thematic maps can show. Unlike a regular maps, when they just show bodies of water, boundaries of states and counties, roads, and land forms. The three types of maps that will be shown in this blog will be a choropleth map, and an isoline map.
Isoline Map
An isoline map depicts lines that are connected at points of equal value.

Dot Map
A dot map uses dot to represent an issue to depict a variation of density in a specific area. In this dot map the different colored dots represent population density.

A choropleth map classifies an issue into different classes that are captured by different colors or shading patterns.
